Sun, Sun, & More Sun!

The last three days, weather wise, have been perfect! Nothing but sun; not a cloud in the sky! My 15 mile hike today was primarily on winding paths through the Spanish countryside. Getting out early, 6:30-7:00 or so, allows one to enjoy the fresh, cool morning air. Before mid-day, it warms up enough to feel like a hot summer day.

Hydration, hydration, hydration! Fuel and water is what keeps us going. A light breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and then a nice dinner. The Spanidh eat late! Tonight, a group of us indulged in some excellent paella washed down with local red wine. A perfect ending to a great day of walking.

Just outside Estella, our starting point this morning, was a free wine fountain sponsored by the Irache winery. Not really tasty wine, but a fun stop just for a sample.

On this trip, I brought walking sticks with me. They are now my most cherished possession. On these paths, the clic-clack of the poles can create an almost trance like experience as one walks long distances. On the uphill parts, and there are plenty of them, them help drive tired legs to the top.
